Drawing upon nearly 50 years of combined experience, the two attorneys of Barbera & McElhone have built a solid foundation of knowledge and experience.
Janine A. Barbera, a native of Long Island, began her legal career as a personal injury defense lawyer. She continued her professional journey by handling real estate closings, matrimonial and family law, litigation and criminal defense. She has taught at the New York Institute of Technology and at American Real Estate School and is a member of several professional organizations. Ms. Barbera was recently elected as the first female chairperson of The Smithtown Conservative Committee.
James E. McElhone began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County. Eventually working in the Major Crimes Bureau and the White Collar Crime Bureau, Mr. McElhone left the public sector for private practice in 1989. Since that time, he has served on behalf of personal injury victims and people accused of committing crimes. He is a strong advocate for people's rights and a formidable litigator.
